Hi there! I’m Donna Castellano MS, RDN creator of Spoonful of Plants. Here you'll find delicious and easy to prepare plant-based meals for everyday, well balanced living!
A Love of Food, A Foundation as a Registered Dietitian
As a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist with a Master's Degree in Clinical Nutrition, you'll get my expert guidance and evidence-based perspective along with the delicious plant-based meals I share on the blog. Here is where you will find quick and easy recipes to help you get more whole-foods, fruits and vegetables into your diet.
As a busy mom, having raised two (now adult) children, I'm aware of the challenges many parents and families face as they navigate through mealtime. That's why the recipes I create are simple, easy to follow and require minimal effort in the kitchen.
What is Flexible Plant-Based Diet?
A flexible plant-based diet simply means you are not strictly vegetarian or vegan. This flexibility allows you to include meat, fish, eggs and diary based foods as desired, while still focusing your plate around plant-based ingredients. This plan usually works well for families who each have different dietary preferences. Learn more about plant-based diets on my nutrition page.
Inspiration for Spoonful of Plants
Living in a rural community along the Jersey Shore, amidst farms and orchards, has been a constant source of inspiration for the meals I create.
I spent many years working in the clinical setting (hospitals, dialysis centers and doctor's offices). It wasn't until I began food blogging, that I felt I could really bring practical nutrition advice to life. Blogging became an effective way of sharing my knowledge, and the recipes that would ultimately get people into their kitchens craving more.
I've also developed a true passion for food photography that has since turned into a career. I love working with food brands, restaurants and magazines to help bring their visions to life.
I think one of the most effective ways to get people to eat healthier is to entice them with mouth-watering recipes, beautiful photography and the kind of meals that can get families excited about sitting down to the table together.
No matter what type of eating plan you follow, my hope is that this blog will be a valuable resource and will encourage you to include more plant-based foods in your diet.
